Holography is a photographic technique that captures the light reflected off from an object, and then displays it in a way that appears three-dimensional. Holograms showed up in movies like “Star Wars” and “Iron Man,” to add futuristic effects.
A variety of types of holograms have been made over the years, including transmission holograms, which work by shining a light through them for the image to be viewed from the side, and rainbow holograms, which are used for security purposes — on credit cards and driver’s licenses, for example.
How holography works
To create a hologram, you need an object that you want to record, a laser beam to be shined on the object, and the recording tool. A recording tool with the proper materials needed to help clarify the image, and a clear environment to enable the light beams to intersect.
One laser beam is split into two equal beams and readdressed by the use of mirrors. One of the split beams, the illumination beam or object beam, is directed at the object. Some of the light is reflected off the object onto the recording tool.
The second beam, known as the reference beam, is directed on the recording tool. Doing this prevents any conflict with the imagery that comes from the object beam, and harmonizes with it to create a more accurate image in the hologram location.
The two beams cross and interfere with each other. The interference pattern is what is embossed on the recording tool to recreate a virtual image for us to see.
The recording tool, where the lights meet, can be made up of different materials. One of the most commonly used materials for creating holograms is photographic film, with an extra number of light-reactive grains. This enables a higher resolution for the two beams, making the image look much crisper and more realistic than using the silver halide material from the 1960s.
In brief, holographic tech has the potential to bring people closer together, surpassing distance, and reforming the idea of place. It’s not just about holograms: it’s about unleashing the true potential of human interaction in a digital age.
From leveraging virtual collaboration & communication to enchanting live events and modern product launches, holograms have proven to be a powerful tool for breaking down geographical and historical barriers and fostering universal connectivity. Embracing holography gives your business a fresh perspective on engagement, communication, and info sharing, ultimately driving utter success in this digital age.
